PS - I have met her too!!
As a kid I used to groove to her then famous numbers Ek Do Teen, Mera Piya Ghar Aaya, Choli ke Peeche, and today I am still raving on Ghagra and O Re Pia!! A trained Kathak dancer – She has been my muse since childhood! Her sensuousness in Dhak Dhak, her grace in Kahe Ched Mohe, her remarkable duo with Prabhu Deva in Kay Sera Sera…one word – AMAZING!! From Bollywood thumkas to playing with your face – I have learnt it all from her!!! HOT! That’s what he is when he starts to dance. Lyrical Hip Hop - His best forte...he rocked it in Kahin to Hogi Wo and Aadat Se Majboor! When he did Hip Hop in Main To Tere Naal Nachna and the face-off in D3 (That too shirtless) – damn the way I drooled over him! His contemporary in Pehli Nazar Mein, Pal n Dil Se (again shirtless...ufff) created “megic”! When he does those nearly impossible lifts...he gets even better! It’s like as if he is flirting with dance!!! By the way, he's a fantastic choreographer too! One of my best memories is when I danced with him n he did a lift with me! Trust me...I nearly died! Her split. Her lines. Her pointe. Her jete. When it comes to contemporary, I consider her flawless! She’s no less when it comes to other forms too! Her waacking in Sasural Genda Phool, her funk hip hop in Chhaliya, her freestyle in Mile Sur Mera Tumhara, her broadway jazz in Aaiye Meherbaan….! Her online dance tutorials are one of my best teachers. Meeting her personally was like cherry on the cake! He creates that beautiful thing I love – Dance! His choreographies taught me to think out of the box! Jazz in the evergreen classical song Inhi Logo Ne, Paso Doble in Satrangi n Pyaar Ki Ek Kahaani, dancing inside a box for Hum Tum Ek Kamre Mein Band Ho, Kallari Payattu in Blue. He was the 1st one to bring aerial acts in DID. Not only his choreographies, but his dancing is beautiful too! His contemporary duet with Priyanka Chopra in Dhadkan Dhadkan from What’s Your Rashee? MJ – Damn her moonwalk! Locking & popping – She could beat the guys! Bollywood – She speaks with her face! Hip Hop - Her attitude! Contemporary – As if she can touch the music! Classical – Delightful expressions! In short, she is an all-rounder. Her dancing pushes me to give a shot at all the forms, n convinces me that one can master it all!

It had been so long since I had danced....final year of undergrad....admissions for postgrad....tension...pressure...ahhh n no dance!! I started to wonder how will I manage to keep dance active in my life....postgrad will be bloody hell tough...one year course...I won't ever have the time...n then a miracle happened!!! My university has a dance society n they teach dance - not just dance - 6 different forms of dance - Ballet. Hip Hop. Contemporary. Modern. Street. Tap. And all of this in just £5 - That's like just Rs. 500!!! They have pointe classes too but I can't join them as I have no previous training!! :-( Its great to groove with dancers from all over the world...different languages...cultures...dance forms...n yet the same passion we all share! So here I am doing my masters degree n learning ballet tap n what not.....how cool is that!! It just proves that when you love something from deep down your heart it won't let you go so easily!! (OK I made that up just now....but its kinda true!) And if the title of this entry "Dance Love" seems kinda funny....lemme tell you its the phrase we all use in the society after any message we pass on to each other!! |
